The Yard Machines 2-Cycle 1 HP Cultivator is a handy solution for your tilling needs with its 8-inch heat-treated steel tines and plow-type handle that gives you added control. EZ-pull starting and a maintenance-free heavy-duty gearbox eliminate frustration, and you can adjust the width of the tines from 6 to 10-1/4 inches. This cultivator is backed by a 2-year limited warranty. This model has a couple of important safety features, too. First, the comfortable handle has an engagement lever mounted to it that must be depressed in order to engage the blades. Rear-tine tillers are a good alternative to front-tine models if your soil is especially hard or if it hasn't been tilled before. As a good rule of thumb, if you can grab a handful of your soil without having to dig and scrape with your fingertips, then this kind of tiller may be more than you need. Even if your soil is on the soft side, you may want to spend the extra money for a rear-till model if you'll be tilling more than about 5,000 square feet.
